interview about a traditional wedding ceremony
For this interview I have interviewed my uncle and my aunt they married just 5 years ago and I was a bridesmaid at this marriage.
How much time was there between the engagement and the marriage? 6 months. Did you have any bridesmaids? Yes we did, our daughter and you. What kind of preparations did you make before the marriage? We made a list with the invitations, we hired a place at the beach to celebrate, we hired a car, a Dj and we ordered drinks and food. Where did you get married? In the local church. What kind of transport did you use to go to the marriage? We rented a white Range Rover. What did you do after marriage? We had a reception in the garden of the church and at the end we went to the beach with our family and special friends. Did you go on a honeymoon? No we did not. What did you wear? I wore a nice fancy wedding dress and my husband wore a grey suite. How many people visited your marriage? About 60 people. The wedding I visited, the one of my Aunt and uncle, was a traditional wedding; They got married at a church, had a reception afterwards where friends and family could congratulate them. And in the evening they had a great party with fireworks. I think this is the most common way to celebrate a marriage in the Netherlands |
the official role of the local government in the wedding ceremony
by the local government you have to get a register to get married, without this register you are not allowed to get married. In the catholic church the register happened by the priests. the register is where you tell that you want to get married, you have to have the register to get married 14 days before you acutely get married. the period between the register and the real marriage is to see of you are allowed to get married. You have to meet the requirements, so you are allowed to get married. if you don’t meet the requirements your wedding is not official.

young people in Europa get married or rather just live together
In Europe it is normal that young couples live together before they get married. Some couples already live together for 10 years or more before they are getting married. In western culture it is also quite common for couples to live together with a contract without being married.
Even getting children is legally possible without being married and with strong rights for both parents about custody.
The Christian religion used to play a bigger role than it does now. God and the church, because of the religion people felt forced to get married. Nowadays that isn’t really the case anymore because the majority of the people don’t believe in the god and the church anymore. They have found their own way of thinking. But some people who still believe strongly in god don’t live together and go to bed together before marriage.

wedding ceremony at the time of your parents and grandparents
I think there are some differences between a wedding ceremony at this moment and a wedding ceremony in the past. In this story I am going to tell you about what I think the differences are.
Locations About 10 years ago you could only marry at the city hall. And a lot of people also had a wedding ceremony in the church. But nowadays you can marry at several places if you ask for permission for example the beach or a castle. Reception In the past before the wedding party there was a reception. Where you can congratulate the bridal couple, when you were not invited to the wedding party. In this time we do not have it anymore because the families are much smaller. Living together In this time almost everyone lives already together when they get married. But in the past almost everyone lived with their parents. Wedding party I think almost nothing is changed with the wedding parties of today and wedding parties of the past. The only thing is that it lasted from the morning until the evening and in this time from afternoon until the evening. Same-sex marriage From 2001 it's possible in the Nederland’s that women can marry women and men can marry men. Before 2001 it was not possible to marriage the same-sex. are there any other reasons than love for people to get married |
The significance of a wedding ceremony in the Netherlands |
Yes there are. Every couple has his own reasons to get married. Most of them is just because of love, but there are other reasons for people to get married. People sometimes get married for financial reasons for example, they can take advantage of tax breaks and the money you get for providing your children. Another reason to get married is because of religious reasons. In some faiths a couple may not be considered married if they only complete a civil ceremony, they have to have a religious ceremony. People also get married because of the pressure from the modern society. Many people feel much pressure from their parents, relatives or other married friends to get married, particularly if they already have children or plan to start a family.

Traditionally the bride wears a white weddings dress and the groom a black suit. Some people get marrieds in a church, but most of them get married in the city hall. After they get married they eat cake and have dinner. In the evening they throw a big party until midnight. Weddings for wealthy and less wealthy people doesn't differ a lot.

conclusion
Getting married is an important decision in a persons life, because if you get married the idea is that you stay with that person for the rest of your life. For some people that’s hard.
A lot of people get in a fight and break up, so if you want to get married you first have to think it over before you are really going to get married. Some people get married so everything is settled for the children.
The most people think getting children is a more important decision, because getting children influences your whole life. With marriage you can break up with your partner, but you have your children your whole life.
In the past, getting married was a more important decision than it is now. Nowadays there are a lot of people who just live together. Sometimes they get married or they just live with each other without getting married.
